Content ratings are designed to help users understand the maturity level of CANVAS series. By making these ratings more visible on the series page, we ensure that users do not encounter content inappropriate for their age or preferences, while also complying with regulatory requirements.
Similar to TV and film ratings, our Content Age Rating system helps readers and parents determine their comfort level with various content on CANVAS series.
How Ratings Are Assigned:
When uploading their series, creators are required to complete a questionnaire, indicating the levels and prevalence of topics and themes such as violence, sexual content, self-harm, alcohol and drugs. A rating is then assigned based on the responses.
Creators are responsible for understanding our age rating guidelines and completing the questionnaire accurate to their series. If there are significant changes to the series that may influence a change in content rating, creators are responsible for updating the questionnaire so that the appropriate rating can be assigned.
Our Age Rating Standards:
- All-Ages: Suitable for all readers. May include mild depictions of cartoon blood.
- Teen (13+): Suitable for readers age 13 or older. May contain mild fantasy violence, blood, or gore. Minor themes related to mental health are acceptable, but no graphic depictions. May include mild profanity.
- Young Adult (16+): Suitable for readers age 16 or older. May contain moderate violence, profanity, sexual themes, mild nudity, and consumption of alcohol or drugs. May also include themes of self-harm, bullying, and abuse.
- Mature (18+): Suitable for readers age 18 or older. Contains graphic imagery, violence, profanity, nudity, or sexual themes. Though explicit sexual content may not be present, this rating is strictly recommended for older/mature readers.
Rating Restrictions:
- 'Mature' series are inaccessible to readers under the age of 18.
- Readers aged 18 and over have access to all content.
Appealing Assigned Ratings:
If your series is assigned a 'Mature' rating and you wish to appeal the decision, please contact creatorsupport@webtoon.com. Creator Support can work with you to adjust your series to meet the criteria of a different Content Age rating, making it visible and suitable for your target audience.
